One of the great joys of the Sunny Southeast Coast of Ireland is the variety of beaches in the area. When we lived here on our first sabbatical the kiddos loved to go to Tramore. It wasn’t just about the sweet shops, or the fish and chips, or the amusement rides. It was about the beauty of the beach. This is a wide strand (beach) and changes dramatically according to the tide. We visited on Monday and it was the lowest tide we had ever seen.
This meant there was more beach area to wander. We enjoyed the beautiful blue and sunny skies and light breezes. We started in multiple layers because it was cool, but fairly quickly we began taking off outer layers. We had a nice lunch of sandwiches and coffee at Moe’s on the strand. They won best sandwich in the area recently. We’d recommend the paninis.
Kathi then drove us in the rocket car to another of our favorite strands, Woodstown. This is a very different type of beach with millions of shells. The mussel farmers were taking advantage of the low tide and harvesting the mussel cages.
Unfortunately one of our favorite pubs, the Saratoga wasn’t open until the evening so a pint to finish the walks wasn’t happening. It didn’t spoil the day, but if you get a chance sometime take a pint outside from the Saratoga in their picnic area. You won’t be disappointed.
